Biography

Carlos Sanchez del Aguila Alternate Representative of Peru to the United Nations in Vienna Carlos Sanchez del Aguila is Alternate Representative of Peru to the United Nations in Vienna, overseeing Peru’s engagement with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). A career diplomat with 25 plus years of experience in the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he has served in key diplomatic posts in Brazil, Paraguay, Venezuela, and Bolivia. He is currently Chair of the Intergovernmental Expert Group on Crimes that Affect the Environment under the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and Vice-chair of the 12º Conference of the Parties of the UNTOC. He has co-chaired the 14º (2023), 15º (2024), 16º (2025) meetings of the technical assistance working group under the UNTOC and coordinated the G-77 + China task force on UNODC matters in Vienna (2024). He also co-chairs the Group of Friends against crimes that affect the environment and the Group of Friends multi-stakeholder participation in UNODC. Mr. Sanchez del Aguila holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Lima (1993-1999), a master’s in diplomacy and international relations from the Diplomatic Academy of Peru (2000-2001), and a master’s in applied political studies from the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policy of Spain (2002-2003).
