Biography

Since May 2025, Carsten Schneider serves as Federal Minister for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and is a member of the German Bundestag, where he has held a seat since 1998. Before joining the Federal Cabinet, he served from 2021 to 2025 as Minister of State to the Federal Chancellor and Federal Government Commissioner for Eastern Germany. In his career he held several leadership positions within the SPD parliamentary group in the Bundestag, including First Parliamentary Secretary from 2017 to 2021, Deputy Chairman from 2013 to 2017, and budget policy spokesperson from 2005 to 2013. He completed training as a bank clerk and holds a degree in public policy from Erfurt University.
