Biography
Dr. Heike Henn has been Director General for International Climate Action at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) since August 2025. She has more than thirty years of experience in development and climate policy, covering research, non-governmental organizations, and the governmental sector. From 2003 to 2025, she held a range of senior positions at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), including coordinator of the German G8 Africa Envoy, head of German development cooperation in Burundi and Rwanda, head of the ONEWORLD – No Hunger special initiative and, from 2019, Deputy Director General for climate, energy and environment. She was a Board member of the Green Climate Fund (2019-2021), a member of the Transitional Committee on Loss and Damage (2023) and co-led a partner group on the Paris Alignment of Multilateral Development Banks (2020-2025). She also chaired the Boards of Trustees of the Blue Action Fund and the Legacy Landscapes Fund. Since January 2026, she has co-chaired the Climate Club together with Türkiye. She studied political science, economics and law at the University of Duisburg.
