Katrin Bornemann

Biography

Dr Katrin Bornemann grew up in Saudi Arabia and Ostfriesland. She has lived and worked in Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, Serbia and Australia, where she held a position at Amnesty International. She completed a Master's degree in Political Science and Economics in London and a PhD in Media and Communication in Munich. In 2010, she completed a two-year training programme to become a moderator, and has been working as one ever since. She can moderate in French, English, Spanish and German. She has published and edited several books, including "Women in Tech" and "ICT in Development", as well as several papers on digitalisation in development. She has moderated the series "Digital Controversy" and various sessions at international conferences such as Re:publica, the AU and the AfdB. She has also worked with German ministries, the Deutsche Welle Akademie, USAID, GIZ, BCG, and other private businesses. From 2019 to 2024, she was Head of Cooperation at the German Embassy in Dar Es Salaam, where, among other activities, she collaborated with UN Women, UNFPA and UNDP. Currently, she is working as a senior policy officer in the UN department at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), where she is responsible for the Alliance "Supporters of the UNDS", the Utstein Dialogues and the UN80 Reform.
