María Magdalena Sepúlveda Carmona

Biography

Dr Magdalena Sepúlveda is the Director of the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD). Before taking up this position, she was the Executive Director of the Global Initiative for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. She is also a member of the Independent Commission for the Reform of International Corporate Taxation (ICRICT) and the United Nations (UN) High-Level Panel on International Financial Accountability, Transparency and Integrity for Achieving the 2030 Agenda. From 2008 to 2014, she was the UN Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights. From 2013 to 2017, she was a member of the High-Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition of the United Nations Committee on World Food Security (CFS). Ms Sepúlveda holds a PhD in International Law from Utrecht University in the Netherlands and an LL.M. from the University of Essex in the United Kingdom.
