Mark Major

Biography

Mark Major is the Senior Strategy Director for the non-profit Kuehne Climate Center (since 2023). For the last 20 years he has focused his work on transport and climate change. During this time he has advised multiple countries on their transport decarbonisation strategies (e.g. China, Chile, Costa Rica, Morocco…) as well as organisations such as Environmental Defence Fund (EDF), the Sustainable Low Carbon Transport Partnership (SLOCAT) and the Transport Decarbonisation Alliance (TDA). From 1999 – 20015 he worked on transport and environment policy for the European Commission in Brussels, including as Team Leader for Urban Mobility and lead EU negotiator for the IMO and other multilateral processes. From 2003 – 2014 he was a Visiting Professor (non-resident) at the Chinese Academy of Transport Science (Ministry of Transport) in Beijing. He is also Chair of the global Sustainable Low Carbon Transport Partnership (SLOCAT) Board. Mark has an MBA in International Management from the American Graduate School of International Management (USA) and a Bachelor's degree (with Honours) in Civil Engineering from Oxford Polytechnic (UK). Mark speaks English, French and Spanish and lives with his family near Girona in the north of Spain.
