Rachmat Pambudy

Biography

Prof. Dr. Rachmat Pambudy is the Minister for National Development Planning and Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) of the Republic of Indonesia. He was born on 23 December 1959 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. After earning his doctorate on Agribusiness Development/Science from the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) in 1999, Pambudy built a career as a lecturer and has extensive experience in teaching, research, and government advisory roles related to agribusiness and development planning. He has remained closely connected to both academic and grassroots agricultural communities throughout his career. Pambudy has decades of experience in government advisory and state-owned enterprise leadership. Significant roles held include Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture, Commissioner of several state companies, and Director of multiple research centers. In 2024, he was appointed Minister of National Development Planning / Head of Bappenas, where he now oversees Indonesia’s long-term development strategy. Pambudy is married and continues to teach agribusiness entrepreneurship at IPB. He has produced a substantial body of written work, from books to scientific articles, and has received multiple national awards, while also leading research across the fields of animal husbandry, food security, and development communication.
