Alejandra Martínez-Salinas

Biography

Alejandra Martínez-Salinas, Ph.D., Nicaraguan, ecologist from the Central American University of Nicaragua. Ph.D. in Natural Resources, and a master's degree M.Sc. in Management and Conservation of Tropical Forests and Biodiversity. Alejandra is a researcher and teacher, with more than 25 years of experience working on research and development projects related with biodiversity conservation across Mesoamerican countries with an emphasis on rural communities, women and youth. Throughout her career she has participated in the publication of more than 26 scientific articles (peer review), and as a co-author of three books, one of the most recent Mainstreaming of Natural Capital and Biodiversity into Planning and Decision-Making: Cases from Latin America and the Caribbean (Inputs to the Dasgupta Review on the Economics of Biodiversity). She is currently the coordinator of the Forests and Biodiversity in Productive Landscapes Research Unit, and Director of the Latin American Chair of Natural Forests at CATIE, based in Turrialba, Costa Rica.
