Biography

Areej Alsayed is a human rights activist based in Cologne, focusing on climate, education, sustainability, and migration policy. As recent high school graduate, she is currently taking a gap year before starting her medical studies. Areej has actively contributed to numerous national and international events, such as the Action for Climate Empowerment Hub Youth Event 2023, the 2023 Bonn Climate Change Conference, and the Global Refugee Forum 2023. Through these platforms, she advocates for youth engagement, with a particular emphasis on amplifying the voices of young refugee girls and women. She serves as the spokesperson for the Youth Advisory Council of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is a member of the Youth Advisory Board for the "Zukunft? Jugend fragen!" - study by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection (BMUV) and the Federal Environment Agency (UBA). Areej is also part of the Education for Sustainable Development youth forum youpaN and contributes to the Federal Foreign Office’s Working Group on Youth and Climate Foreign Policy.
