Biography
Fernando Marani has been the Program Director at New York University’s Center on International Cooperation (CIC) since February 2024. Previously, he served as Deputy Chef de Cabinet and Senior Legal Adviser to four Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly from 2020 to 2023. For 20 years, he was a career diplomat from Argentina, actively engaging in issues of international law, human rights, and sustainable development. He served as Legal Adviser at the Embassy of Argentina in The Netherlands and at the Permanent Mission of Argentina to the United Nations. Fernando has also held prominent diplomatic roles, including serving as Legal Adviser at the International Court of Justice, Chairman of the Special Commission of the Hague Conference on Private International Law, Chairman of the Group of Friends of the International Criminal Court in New York and co-Chair of the LGBTI Core Group. Fernando holds a Juris Doctor degree from the Universidad Nacional del Litoral in Argentina. He was a scholar at the National Foreign Service Institute (ISEN) in Buenos Aires and an international fellow at the Rio Branco Institute in Brasilia, Brazil.
