Biography

Dr. Tobias Bischof-Niemz is a member of the Executive Board for Technology & International Projects at ENERTRAG SE, an international company operating in the renewable energy sector. In his role, he is responsible for the technical design of combined power plants, international project development, and the company's project implementation organization. Previously, he founded and headed the Energy Centre at the South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), which under his leadership became a central institution for the energy transition in southern Africa. Other stages of his career include Eskom, South Africa's national electricity utility, where he was Chief Engineer and co-developed the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), and the Boston Consulting Group in Frankfurt. Tobias Bischof-Niemz studied mechanical engineering at TU Darmstadt and UC Berkeley, as well as public administration at Columbia University in New York. He is the author of the book South Africa's Energy Transition and was a member of the South African Ministerial Advisory Council on Energy, among other things.
