Tomas Diez

Biography

Tomas Diez is the Founder and Chairman of the Board of the Fab City Foundation. His work explores the transformative potential of distributed design and manufacturing in building more productive and resilient cities and regions. This research and implementation focus contributes to fostering sustainable urban development by promoting localized production systems and resource efficiency. Tomas's approach is deeply collaborative, developed through significant partnerships with institutions such as MIT's Center for Bits and Atoms (CBA), the Fab Foundation, IAAC (Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia), and engagement with global bodies like the European Union and the World Bank, as well as academic peers like the Royal College of Arts. These collaborations are instrumental in advancing the understanding and global implementation of localized sustainable practices. Currently, Tomas is also based and actively involved in Indonesia, where he leads the Meaningful Design Group, focusing on applying principles of sustainable design, technology, and community-driven innovation in diverse local contexts. Through these collective efforts and global initiatives, Tomas contributes to developing practical strategies for creating more self-sufficient, environmentally conscious, and equitable urban futures, bridging global networks with localized action and research.
