In this infotainment (activating + entertaining) hands-on workshop we combine the UN Social Development Goal 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities and 17, Partnerships for Social Development Goals, with the findings of and research in the SURE – Sustainable Development in Urban Regions project.
We want citizens of Hamburg and the Metropolregion to get insight into the wide range of research on sustainability. Within the SURE project many researchers and practitioners are developing different local strategies to implement sustainability measures in urban regions. The workshop participants will explore the SURE atlas - an interactive tool i.e. touch table, that is synthesising key information and findings of the SURE projects in a playful and entertaining way. By doing so, they will discover interconnections between Hamburg and cities in Southeast Asia which become evident through the visualizations provided (i.e. discovered via) the SURE atlas and the conversations and exchange instigated around these findings. Thus, engaging into topics such as ecological factors, increasing resilience to extreme weather conditions and climate change. And by doing so realising the global scale and local impact of sustainable development. The event shows how approachable Hamburg public universities are as a place for education and research. And at the same time the interconnectivity of local actors in the field of sustainability such as business, academia, politics and civil society become evident.
