This interactive workshop invites participants to explore sustainability in a fun, hands-on, and engaging way.

Bringing together the UN Sustainable Development Goal Sustainable Cities and Communities and insights from the SURE – Sustainable Development in Urban Regions project, the workshop opens up current sustainability research to citizens in Hamburg and the wider metropolitan region.

Using the SURE atlas, an interactive touch-table tool, participants will discover research findings in a playful and accessible format. They will explore connections between Hamburg and urban areas in Southeast Asia, reflect on topics such as climate change, resilience, and ecological challenges, thus gaining a better understanding of how global sustainability issues shape local realities.

The workshop also highlights how approachable public universities can be as spaces for research, learning, and dialogue. By connecting perspectives from academia, business, politics, and civil society, it shows that sustainable development is a shared task.

Participants will experience how digital tools and personal exchange can work together to make complex ideas easier to understand — and leave inspired to think about their own role in shaping a more sustainable future.
